Is Everyday Mahj free?
Yes. Everyday Mahj is free to play right now, and creating an account is free. A paid tier may be added in the future. If it is, this page will explain what's included and what stays free.
Where can I play Everyday Mahj?
You can play Everyday Mahj in any modern mobile or desktop browser at play.everydaymahj.com. There's no download needed. Apps for iPhone and Android are coming soon.
Do I need an account to play?

Who is Everyday Mahj for?
Everyday Mahj is for anyone who plays American mahjong or wants to learn it. Regular players use it to practice between weekly games. New players use the built-in rules, tile guide and hand analysis to learn at their own pace, without holding up a table of friends.
Is Everyday Mahj American mahjong or Chinese mahjong?
Everyday Mahj is American mahjong. That means 152 tiles including jokers and flowers, a card of winning hands you play toward, and American-style rules.
Mahjong basics
How do you play American mahjong?
In American mahjong, four players each try to be first to complete a 14-tile hand that matches one line on the card. Each player starts with 13 tiles. On your turn you draw a tile, then discard one. You can also claim another player's discard to complete a group. The first player to finish a hand from the card calls “Mahjong!” and wins. Everyday Mahj's The Rules guide walks through a full game.
How many tiles are in American mahjong?
An American mahjong set has 152 tiles:
- 108 suit tiles: Bams, Craks and Dots, numbered 1–9, four of each
- 16 winds: North, East, West and South
- 12 dragons: red, green and white (called soap)
- 8 flowers
- 8 jokers
Everyday Mahj's Tile Guide shows every tile.
What is the card in American mahjong?
The card lists every hand you're allowed to win with, grouped into sections such as like numbers, runs or winds and dragons. Each line shows the tiles you need, the suit rule, the points and whether it must be concealed. Everyday Mahj uses its own card, with 67 hands in nine sections: Everyday, Even Flow, Oddly Enough, Run Club, Same Number, Three·Six·Nine, Winds & Dragons, Quint Club and Singles & Pairs.
How do jokers work in American mahjong?
Jokers stand in for any tile in a group of three or more identical tiles (a pung, kong or quint). You can't use a joker in a pair or as a single tile. If another player exposes a group containing a joker, you can swap in the real tile on your turn and take the joker. Everyday Mahj supports joker swaps from any exposed group, before you discard.
What is the Charleston?
The Charleston is the tile exchange at the start of an American mahjong game. Players pass three unwanted tiles right, then across, then left. It helps everyone shape their hand before play begins. In Everyday Mahj, the first Charleston is always played. You then choose whether to pass again in a second Charleston or skip it, and finish with an optional courtesy pass of up to three tiles with the player across. Jokers can't be passed.
What does a concealed hand mean?
A concealed hand is one you complete without exposing any groups. You draw your tiles from the wall and only claim a discard for your final, winning tile. Hands that must be won concealed say “Concealed” in their note on the Everyday Mahj card. Any other hand can include exposed groups.
What is a wall game?
A wall game happens when all the tiles have been drawn and no one has called Mahjong. Nobody wins that round. In Everyday Mahj, the end-of-game screen shows how close each player came and which hand they were closest to. A wall game counts as a game played but not a win, so it lowers your win rate and ends a win streak.
Playing the game
Who do I play against?
In Everyday Mahj you play against three AI opponents who draw, discard, claim tiles and call Mahjong just like human players. Tap “New Game vs AI Opponents” from the home screen to start. Playing with friends online is planned for a future update.
How long does a game take?
A typical Everyday Mahj game is under 10 minutes. If you need to stop, your game is saved on that device, and you can pick it up from the Resume card on the home screen any time.
I'm new to mahjong. Can I learn with Everyday Mahj?
Yes. Everyday Mahj has a How to Play section with three guides: The Rules (how a game plays out), the Tile Guide (every suit, wind and dragon) and Winning Hands (every line on the card). During a game, Hand Analysis shows which hands your tiles are closest to. More content to help you learn how to play is planned for future updates.
What is Hand Analysis?
Hand Analysis is an Everyday Mahj tool that shows which lines on the card best fit the tiles you're holding. It lists your closest hands, how many tiles away you are from each, and the points each is worth. Your current hand stays pinned at the top so you can compare as you scroll, and you can pick any line to track instead of the recommended one.
What happens at the end of a game?
When a game ends, Everyday Mahj reveals every player's hand. You'll see what they exposed, what was still on their rack and which tiles they needed to win. You also get your game stats, sometimes a highlight such as a new fastest win, and the option to play again. If you won while signed in, you can share your result too.
Can I see how close I was when I didn't win?
Yes. If another player wins or the wall runs out, Everyday Mahj shows how many tiles away you were, the hand you were closest to and exactly which tiles you still needed. Once you have a few games recorded, it also tells you when a finish beats your average.
How does scoring work in Everyday Mahj?
Each hand on the Everyday Mahj card has a point value, shown next to the line. When you win, you score that hand's points. There are no bonus points, but harder hands, like concealed ones, are worth more on the card. Your score for each win appears in your game history. The weekly leaderboard ranks players by total wins, not points.
Accounts & stats
How do I create an Everyday Mahj account?
Tap “Sign up”, then choose a username, enter your email and create a password of at least 6 characters. Accounts are free. If you forget your password, tap “Forgot password?” on the Log In screen to reset it.
What stats does Everyday Mahj track?
Everyday Mahj tracks your win rate, games played and won, win streak and best win streak. It also tracks your average turns to win, your fastest win, concealed wins and total turns played. You can see which sections of the card you win with most, and your top three most-won hands.
Where can I see my past games?
Open Profile and tap the History tab. Everyday Mahj lists your games by day, newest first. Each game shows who won, the section of the winning hand, your score if you won, and the time. Tap any game to see its full end-of-game screen again, including every player's hand.
How does the daily streak work?
Your daily streak counts how many days in a row you've finished a game of Everyday Mahj. Finish at least one game each day to keep it going. Days roll over at midnight US Central time. Your streak appears at the top of the home screen when you're signed in. It's separate from your win streak, which counts wins in a row.
How does the weekly leaderboard work?
The Everyday Mahj weekly leaderboard ranks players by total wins over the past 7 days, with win rate breaking ties. It's a rolling window, so older wins drop off each day. You can also switch to a daily or all-time board. Tap any player to see their player card, with their win rate, games played and most-won hand.
Can I use dark mode?
Yes. Everyday Mahj has a dark mode. By default it matches your device's light or dark setting. To choose one yourself, go to Profile › Account › Appearance. The setting is saved on each device.
Privacy & safety
How do I report or block another player?
Tap the player on the leaderboard to open their player card, then tap Report or Block. Reports are anonymous, and Everyday Mahj reviews every report within 24 hours. When you block someone, you won't see each other on the leaderboard, neither of you can open the other's player card, and they aren't told. See the Community Guidelines.
How do I unblock someone?
Go to Profile › Account › Blocked players and tap Unblock next to their name. It takes effect right away.
How do I delete my Everyday Mahj account?
Go to Profile › Account › Edit profile and tap “Delete account” at the bottom. Confirm, then type DELETE. Your account is deleted right away, including your profile, username, photo, game history, stats, streak and leaderboard spot. It can't be undone.
What data does Everyday Mahj collect?
Everyday Mahj collects what it needs to run your account and show your stats: your username, email, profile photo if you add one, and a record of each game you finish. It also keeps basic usage records, such as when you visit and start a game, plus any reports or blocks you make. Profile photos are checked by an automated moderation service. Everyday Mahj doesn't show ads or use advertising trackers. Read the full Privacy Policy.
